Darvocet Settlement Amounts

The numbers of individuals who have suffered from Darvocet side effects including heart problems, overdose, and accidental death is almost unprecedented. However, the drug companies have been known to offer substantial settlements for similar recalls affecting so many people. For example, the people and families harmed by Vioxx were compensated with a $4.85 billion settlement.

With the FDA’s recent announcement regarding its decision to ban Darvocet, Darvon, and propoxyphene, it is simply too soon to predict the settlement amounts of pending Darvocet lawsuits. However it is safe to say that as more people learn about the ban of the popular painkillers, thousands more will likely come forward seeking compensation for their injuries.

Just how many people have been affected?

Darvocet, Darvon, and other propoxyphene painkillers are among the most widely prescribed drugs in the U.S. The FDA has estimated 10 million prescriptions were written in 2009 for Darvocet and Darvon, and over 17 million additional prescriptions were written for generic propoxyphene. Experts predict that up to 2000 people have died unnecessarily since the painkillers were taken off the European market in 2009. Since 1981, Darvon and Darvocet have been linked to over 10,000 confirmed deaths, and over 2,000 reported accidental deaths.

Every person who has suffered from taking Darvocet has a unique set of circumstances surrounding his or her experience with the drug. As such, any Darvocet settlements will likely vary from person to person. Settlement offers are usually evaluated based on a review of factors including an individual’s out of pocket expenses, the nature and extent of the subject injuries, loss of earning, and pain and suffering.
